Hustle and Flow

  • Jul. 3rd, 2008 at 10:55 AM

Well I bought the suit yesterday at Men's Warehouse. Its gray, faint vertical stripe, white shirt, diagonal striped tie. Though i totally feel hustled. While Suit, Shirt, Socks, Tie was all $350 USD, which is pretty good, but those sales people were aggressive. Its like used car salesman or mattress or anything else.

First they tried to sell me two suits (Special two for 350!)
Then tried to sell me a belt
Then sell me two shirts and two ties
Then sell me shoes

There was even a little tag teaming with the old new york Italian senior "wardrobe consultant" with heavy coffee breath coming on chime in.

Well at least i know my suit size now (38 Long)

Ill look for the shoes at DSW i think.

Persepolis

Beautifully animated/illustrated movie based on the autobiographical Graphic Novel of the same name, this French movie tells the coming of age of Marjane Satrapi during the Iranian Revolution, the Iran/Iraq war and its aftermath.

She tries to find her identity as a woman, person, and Iranian in an increasingly repressive society...even some years in Austria as a teenager and a taste of "freedom" still makes her feel alienated

The Death of Comics Page

  • Jun. 30th, 2008 at 12:12 PM

the first website i worked on at the Tribune died today, http://www.comicspage.com

it now redirects to http://www.tmsfeatures.com/comicspage/

the design was getting old, and needed to be redesigned, and recoded using magical css and xhtml, but its still a shame that instead of redesigning it, they just cut the plug.

sad.

Katy Perry: I kissed A Girl

  • Jun. 30th, 2008 at 8:14 AM

EDIT: the more i think of it, the more this is the "will and grace" of pop songs...flirting with the edge but too afraid to go over the line. shhh she dont even do anything even remotely suggestive with a girl in the video. blah!

im probably over thinking this song. its an admittedly catchy, fun song and the number one song in the US right now. (I wonder if Suburban mom and dads are freaking out?..probably in DuPage County)

but is it just more gay- as entertainment? its like the bi curious meaner version of Jennifer Paige's crush.

So Katy is doing some experimenting...and and that doesnt make her gay, and thats fine.

but she is surely trying to be slightly provocative.

however lesbianism by the general male public is still considered "hot"

no man in the world could have made this song and have it go number 1 in the United States.
---
Jill Sobule's song of the same title and theme i guess is more subtle and innocuous. Its too quirky with its folky instrumentation to be dangerous. It lacks the sex and the attitude of Perry, and its not about some cheap drunken party thrills or a rebellion.

HA! Imagine US Television having this problem!

"EastEnders: Shah criticised the fact that the Ferreira family was of Goan, rather than Bangladeshi, descent. Photograph: BBC

Broadcasters have overcompensated for their lack of executives from ethnic minorities by putting too many black and Asian faces on screen, a leading television industry figure said last night.

Samir Shah, a member of the BBC's board of directors, said this had led to a "world of deracinated coloured people flickering across our screens - to the irritation of many viewers and the embarrassment of the very people such actions are meant to appease".

Shah, a former BBC head of current affairs who now runs an independent production company, Juniper, as well as being a non-executive director of the corporation, used a speech to the Royal Television Society to call for current TV industry diversity policies to be ditched because they were not working.

In an echo of the speech earlier this year by comedian Lenny Henry, who bemoaned the lack of diversity in British broadcasting, Shah said UK television had to go back to the drawing board to increase the number of black and Asian executives.

Speaking to an audience of television insiders, Shah said: "The difficult truth I want you to accept is this: the equal opportunity policies we have followed over the last 30 years simply have not worked."....

  • Jun. 27th, 2008 at 5:28 AM

well my doctor did not think my knee problems were anything serious due to my descriptions/symptoms.

he thinks its "intermittent tendonitis" probably caused by overdoing it at the gym, but im going to an ortho doctor next week just in case.

dreams can come true

  • Jun. 27th, 2008 at 5:19 AM

bizarre dreams this morning

sometimes i have dreams where im not in them, like im watching a movie or tv

first one was the Incredible Hulk..but it was the old bill bixby series. David Banner was hiding out in some kind of men's shelter. It was old and dark and grey, in a victorian house. The bizarre part of the dream was their was this "hulk cat" that was green! And it was the only thing that calmed the Hulk down when he went into a rage. But i kept on thinking "wow they did a bad dye job on that cats fur"

---
The second dream was like some odd Wes Anderson movie. Everyone was terribly eccentric and always had witty and odd things to say. it was this couple who was married, but the dude ended up gay, but they were best of friends so they just stayed together. they seemed to live in the same victorian house from the Hulk movie, but the living room was ultra modern, with state of the art home theatre and massive flat screen tv.

they had four children, everyone was weird but the youngest who was completely "normal". they lived in Raleigh North Carolina of all places

strange
